The Castlevania Chronicles features two discs, with four versions of each tune from the X68000 Dracula game. Quite honestly, the soundtrack of this game really wasn't that good - other than a handful of remixed songs, most of the new music was rather lacking.

The first group of songs are the ones used in the Playstation arrange. A handful of the songs have been drastically redone - Vampire Killer and Wicked Child have a electronic/techno sound to it, while the previously hard-rock Thrashard in the Cave is now a lot more mellow and atmospheric. First time playing the game, I found these a bit too drastic, although they've grown on me over time. Many I've talked to find them irritating, however. Others tracks, such as Bloody Tears and Moon Fight are merely upgraded versions of their original song (although with its orchestral tone, The Tower of the Dolls is now the best piece in the whole game.)

The second version is the original X68000 FM synth. The sound quality is approximately a step or two higher than a Sega Genesis. The second CD contains slightly rearranged versions especially for two different sound synthesizer modules. They're distinctly different, though it's entirely up to personal preference in deciding which is actually better. Take note that the Roland SC-55 songs are the same ones used on the MIDI Power Pro 3.0: Gradius 3/Akumajou Dracula CD.

There are also two additional tracks - a medley of songs from the original Castlevania (Vampire Killer, Heart of Fire and Out of Time) done in the electronic style of the Arrange version tracks. The second is a rather peculiar arrangement of Bloody Tears which, on a whole, is not that special.

There seems to be two printings of this CD. Early versions contained a misprint, where the game title was misspelled as "Castlebania". However, this seems to have been corrected in later releases.
